Pohjoismaiden upseerijärjestöjen (NOA) kokoontumisessa Oslossa pääaiheina oli vertailla ja hakea kokemuksia Nato-palveluksesta sekä selvittää sotilasuran pito- ja vetovoimatekijöitä.

-Norjan ja Tanskan upseerijärjestöt antoivat erittäin hyvää tulitukea Ruotsin ja Suomen järjestöille, jotka uusimpina täysjäseninä neuvottelevat Nato-palveluksesta. Meille on ehdottoman tärkeää, että palveluksen ehdot saatetaan tasolle, joka tekee Nato-palveluksesta kannustavaa, kertovat kokoukseen osallistuneet Päällystöliiton puheenjohtaja Jyrki Lukkarinen ja Upseeriliiton puheenjohtaja Ville Viita.

Pohjoismaiset upseerijärjestöt ovat samaa mieltä, että sotilaan perheen tukeminen on yhtä tärkeää riippumatta siitä, jääkö perhe kotiin vai seuraako sotilasta ulkomaille.

-Työskentelemme pohjoismaisissa upseerijärjestöissä aktiivisesti päättäjien kanssa varmistaaksemme sotilaille oikeudenmukaisen Nato-palveluksen, puheenjohtajat kertovat.

Statement from the Nordic Officers Alliance (NOA) 

The Nordic Officers Alliance (NOA) expresses its deep concern regarding the challenges of retaining personnel within our Armed Forces. As we look towards the future, it is imperative that nations address these issues to maintain a competent and capable military.

Key Concerns:

1. Retention of Skilled Personnel: The retention of skilled and experienced personnel is critical to the operational effectiveness of our armed forces. We are witnessing a trend where highly trained individuals are leaving the military for civilian opportunities, which poses a significant risk to our readiness and capability.

2. Competitive Civilian Market: The civilian job market offers attractive alternatives to military service, making it challenging to retain our best and brightest. The Armed Forces must find ways to make military careers more appealing and competitive to counteract this trend.

3. Quality of Life: The quality of life for our service members and their families is a paramount concern. Addressing issues such as housing, healthcare, and work-life balance is essential to retaining our personnel. The Armed Forces must ensure that soldiers feel valued and supported both professionally and personally.

4. NATO service: We are committed to improve the terms and salaries for all our members serving abroad in NATO. It is imperative that the terms of service is brought to a level that makes it attractive to serve in NATO. Service in NATO command structure should be voluntary. The support of the family is equally important regardless if the family stays at home or follows the soldier abroad. We are actively working together with national governments to ensure fair and consistent conditions that recognize the challenges and responsibilities soldiers face while serving internationally.

5. Training and Development: The changed security situation requires nations to focus on continuous training and professional development of competent Armed Forces. This calls for an increase in military education in both numbers and quality. The Armed Forces must invest in the education and growth of our personnel to keep pace with evolving threats and technologies. NOA encourages Nordic cooperation to strengthen the education capabilities.

Call to Action:

 The NOA calls upon our governments and defense leadership to prioritize these concerns and take decisive action. By addressing these issues, we can ensure that our Armed Forces remain strong, capable, and ready to meet the challenges of the future. Together, we can build a military that not only attracts but also retains the best talent, ensuring the security and stability of our nations.
